Who is Nat?

Nat Sawatphadungkij

From Thailand to Austin

Nat’s cooking is inspired by the smiles on people’s faces as they enjoy his dishes. From traditional hot Thai specialties to delicious Sushi platters, he puts passion and artistry into his work. Nat specializes in on-site private sushi parties and Thai/sushi catering.

Born and raised in Thailand, he joined his family in the U.S. in the 90’s. His mother purchased two restaurants, one Thai restaurant and one Sushi restaurant in South Beach, Miami, Florida. While his brother’s main focus was Thai food, Nat got the advantage of being trained by a professional Japanese Sushi Chef for the Sushi restaurant.  This was the start of Nat’s journey into the world of hospitality.

He moved to Austin in 1998 to start his independent life with his now wife, Marisa. He was the first crew of Kenichi, the 1st upscale trendy sushi restaurant for Austin at that time. In his free time, he began freelancing private sushi parties. It wasn’t long before he was ready to head his very own place, Chon Som. Located in a small corner of north Austin, he and Marisa gained local recognition as a neighborhood staple. For the next 6 years, Chon Som was the neighborhood hangout for Thai & Sushi, where everyone knows your name.

Currently, he’s going back to his roots with personal chef and Thai/sushi catering. It is now time to take your event to the next level and showcase Nat in your kitchen.
